Ever since the Kerela government released the Hema Committee, trouble has been brewing in the Malayalam film industry. The report, which shed light on the sexual exploitation of women in the Malayalam film industry, saw several well-known actors and filmmakers being accused of abuse and harassment towards women. Aside from the AMMA President, Mohanlal and the executive committee submitting their resignation, the Kerala Police have reportedly registered FIRs against 11 people, including two-time Kerala Film Awards winner, Nivin Pauly.

Rape case filed against Nivin Pauly

As per several media reports, the Kerela Police has filed a non-bailable case on Nivin Pauly for allegedly sexually assaulting an aspiring actor. According to the report, the survivor filed a police complaint in Ernakulam alleging that the actor brought her to Dubai on the pretext of offering a role in a film, and sexually assaulted her in November 2023. The report further stated that after receiving the complaint, the police conducted a preliminary investigation before filing the case against Nivin, and five other people, including a film producer.

It is said that Nivin is the sixth accused in the crime. The case has been registered by the Oonnukal Police in Ernakulam. Police said an FIR was registered under various IPC sections, including section 376 (rape). As per the report, the case will be passed to the Special Investigation Team (SIT) formed by the Kerala government to probe all cases of sexual exploitation of women involving the Malayalam film industry. There are cases already being investigated against names like Siddique, Jayasurya, and director Ranjith.

Nivin reacts to FIR

A while after the rape case was filed, Nivin took to Instagram and called the accusation ‘baseless’. He wrote, “I have come across a false news report accusing me of abusing a girl. Please know that this is entirely untrue. I’m determined to go to any extent to prove these allegations are baseless and will take all necessary steps to bring those responsible to light. Thank you for your concern. The rest will be handled legally.”

As reported by ANI, the Malayalam actor also held an emergency press conference on Tuesday night. Addressing the rape accusation, the actor said, “I saw the news just now. I don’t know that girl, and I haven’t seen her. This is a baseless allegation. The news is affecting us because I have a family. I called for this press conference at this time because I am 100% sure that I am not at fault. An FIR has been registered, and I will handle the case according to the law and will fight against it. I will go to any extent to prove the truth. This will take time.”
